Bridging the Gap is one of the leading documentary new talent initiatives for cinema and broadcast in the UK. Consistently picking up awards, BAFTA’s, special mentions and festival screenings in over 40 countries world-wide, it offers a creative training programme alongside production.
Now in its 10th year, the initiative aims to bridge the gap between training/graduation and a first commission by offering the opportunity to work closely with Scottish Documentary Institute and make a 10 min documentary.
The 4 commissioned filmmakers receive further hands on training right the way through to post-production. The short films are geared for distribution in cinemas and festivals.
In 2012, we are also launching Bridging the Gap PLUS, an opportunity for 2 emerging Scottish-based filmmakers to get a 30 min commission from BBC Scotland, produced by SDI Productions.
Selected projects will be developed and honed further through individual consultancies.
As part of Bridging the Gap we are also presenting a series of public documentary master-classes in Edinburgh, highlights of which are available online for the benefit of the wider filmmaking community.
